Intentioning: Using voice, visualization, imagination, and your feeling centers to create a desired outcome
How to choose your intention
There can be so many things to ask for as to be dizzying. When I'm in that space, I say things like "Show me what I want. Show me what will serve me the most, in this moment." As I speak it out, various layers of what I want to program will clear away and the true desires beneath will come through, so let your phrasing change as you're speaking and allow what feels best to come through.
Setting Intention
As you're preparing for bed or once you're already in bed and relaxing into sleep, speak to yourself, aloud. You can do this silently to yourself, but if you have trouble, try doing it out loud when you start. If there is someone in bed whom you'll disturb by talking out loud, try doing so in front of the mirror, or while you're going about getting ready for bed. If other things take over, you can do this in your mind. The more distinctly you can hear your words in your mind, and the more consistent you are, the deeper the intentioning will go and the faster and more profound (realized) the results will be.
As you drift off, try to continue. Falling asleep while giving yourself instructions produces amazing results. When I began to use this method for lucid dreaming, I went from not recalling my dreams to lucid dreaming within 2 weeks. As I continued doing this each night, within a month. Here's how my programming went during that time:
My Intention: To have lucid flying dreams
"Thank you, Jason for dreaming. Thank you for remembering your dreams in the morning. Thank you for having been awake in your dreams, and thank you for flying in your dreams last night. That was wonderful!"
While I was saying this to myself, aloud at first and then just in my thoughts, I generated the sensation of having been conscious and flying. It took a week or so to develop the discipline to do this nightly, and once I was consistent, it took a few more days to consistently, substantially develop the ability to feel the sensation of being lucid and of flying. The more I practiced this (weakly at first, and stronger as I progressed along), I discovered I could tap the little experience from the previous night and build on it. So at first, the sensations I was able to generate were minimal and not very encouraging. That first week week was the hardest, because I had to rely strictly on trusting that my methods would work. Those first few nights, I had to consciously give over any sense of 'knowing', and settle into trusting that my intuition was guiding me correctly.
During that first week, I focused as much attention as I could on generating the feeling of being lucid and the feeling of flying. And the more I did it, the more exhilirating these imagined flights became. I could feel my heart begin to flutter and race, could feel my feet lift off the ground. I grew up in downtown Chicago and then lived in Denver for many years, so many of my visual memories involved buildings and I would 'see' them falling away below me.

How to speak to yourself
The more conversational, the better.
Bringing conscious intention to your dreams can generate profound results in both your sleeping and waking life.
Can you speak out loud to yourself in bed as you're shifting into sleep? Thank yourself by name for dreaming of what you wish, for dreaming lucidly and for remembering when you woke (past tense). Speak as if it's the next morning and you’ve just awakened from a dream of your choice. The key is repetition and feeling the resonance of your own voice in your chest. Our minds accept and follow instructions from our own voice only, so using your own voice generates deep and powerful effects. To really charge it, pause and allow yourself to feel having just had that dream.
Again, while you’re lying in bed, drifting off, talk to yourself with ease. Change up what you say, so that it feels natural and not scripted, as long as the same message is being sent. Relax into it. Allow yourself to let go of worry about getting it right. Allow your voice to get soft and resonant. As you’re almost asleep, try to pull out of it just enough to repeat some or all of it again. It’s great to drift off in the middle. I’ve found some of my most effective intentioning is at these moments.
As you begin this practice, have some patience. I first started experiencing results after 2 weeks of regular intentioning, because my mind resisted the change. But with a little persistence and consistency, it let go of its old ways and began responding to the new instructions. Once that happened, the growth was exponential and there were clear reflections of that growth in my waking life as much as in my dreaming. The more you do this, all of this, the more evidence and benefits you’ll notice in your daily life, your emotional health, your mental clarity and your over-all well being.
Talk to yourself, aloud, be it in bed, or in front of the mirror, or in the shower, or anyplace before going to sleep that you’re comfortable doing so. Choose your words as though it’s the next morning, as though you’re waking from a night of amazing dreaming, and speak with gratitude for having already dreamed as you wanted to. Your brain and spirit will hear this programming and will act to make that statement a truth. This is one facet of how all Intentioning works.
As you phrase the intentioning, make your corrections. Speak to yourself, conversationally, using words that feel real and believable. Use a soft, resonant tone and feel the vibrations of what you're saying reverberating in your chest. This is one of the ways to send in the deeper programming. Speak to yourself aloud, and it won’t matter if you can hear the words clearly as you’re drifting off, because your mind is thinking and feeling them already.
The dreaming is an excellent place to practice the art of 'Intentioning' since everything we do in our dreams is experienced as real by our brains,

Changing traffic lights: There are a few keys to this working.
1. I imagine the light as already green. I see it that way. I don't push it or force it, try to exert my will over it or manipulate it in any way. By seeing it green, I'm sending out an intention that it be green.
2. I generate the sensation of moving through the light, as if it's turned green already. I feel my momentum continuing,
3. I generate the feeling of having a green light. I feel the ease of having a green light. I relax my body as best I can and imagine myself arriving to where I'm going exactly when I wish to
4. I do my best to let go of it happening the way I want it to happen. Because we're co-creating this reality, it may not always change according to your desires. Remember; there's a still a larger picture going on, which we are participating in.
5. I brake when I need to :)
