                                      Brewing Instructions:
Makes: 25-35+ cups of tea, depending on your pinch size
Tea Strainer: Only fill halfway as the herbs will expand
Loose in a pot or kettle works great
Ideally, pour some cold water over the herbs, just enough to submerge them. Then hot (just shy of boiling is best), after a few minutes is fine. It wakes the herbs gently. I don't always do this, but it does preserve the nutritional benefits.

I use to use honey. Now I don't add anything. Friends use sweetener or lemon. Have fun
Steeping time: Five minutes for light flavoring and the longer it steeps, the stronger the flavor. I make a pot and the second cup I drink has been steeping for 15 minutes or longer. Dump or coAfter an hr or more it may start to go bitter, if you leave the herbs in.

                                      Medicinal benefits coming soon!

                                      A long, long time ago....

                                      Picture
The Legend:  The Great Fool Jitterbug dropped in from the stars, skipping and flitting and quantum-blinking from the Pleiades to Andromeda to Gaia and Sirius, visiting friends, teachers and all her tribal relations, seeking the greatest of dreams. She captured the genius, laughter and imagination from across the galaxy and distilled it to its essence.

A dose of this elixir is said to imbue whom so ever drinks if it with the gift of visions, dreams and love, from which the greatest dreamers, sorceresses and alchemists from across this unique swath of the Universe have drawn for eons, and for eons to come.

                                      Where it all began....
When I was growing up, I had a dream pillow. Now all of the instructions I read advised me to put it in my pillow case to get just the slightest whiff of the herbs as I'd roll over on it in my sleep, but that wasn't gonna do it for me, so I'd put right on my face so that each breath would deliver a full dose of those sumptuous aromas.

Years passed and eventually, no matter how much more I crunched and crushed and worked it over, there was no more scent to be had from that little pillow. One day I took a knife and carefully sliced through the stitching along three of it's sides and peeled back the flap. I found a small variety of herbs. Mostly lavender, some mugwort, and some chamomile. Inspired, I bought a book about making dream pillows, called How To Make Herbal Dream Pillows: Secret Blends for Pleasant Dreams (The Spirit of Aromatherapy), by Jim Long and Dagmar Fehlau. That got me started and I continued searching, learning some basics about herbalism and exploring what might go into a remarkable blend. I was looking for a magical mixture; for something that would quicken my evolution through my dreaming. The intention was to go in deep, travel the universe and learn about the nature of reality; the real nature of it. I wanted to unravel the challenges I was facing in my every day life and there were many. And don't forget high adventure....to do things that we can't do in waking reality.....yet.

Eventually I took the bit of knowledge I had and went down to The Scarlet Sage Herb Co. at 1173 Valencia St., nestled between The Mission & Dolores Park in San Francisco. The store is filled with herbs and tonics and oils and all manner of wonderful smells and soothing hues. To the left, past the counter and a small collection of crystals, I found a wall of bulk herbs.

They reached floor to tall ceiling and if memory serves, cover an entire wall section, maybe 10-12 feet across.  I smiled, put down my bag, dropped my shoulders and took in a long, deep breath, noticing how all the scents were mingling and dancing together. Some were subtle and others declared themselves boldly. They slithered around my waist and curled themselves about my shoulders, whispering secrets in my ear. They promised to heal my wounds (of body and heart), and open doorways to higher, lower, inner and outward realms.

I smiled again, this time with a subtle smirk. The universe was sharing one of it's secrets and I was in gratitude and awe. Have you ever felt as though you've been invited within the inner chambers of a secret society of alchemists and sorceresses from the ancient future? My smile deepened with my breath. The experience was not lost on me though it would be years before I was ready and confident enough to share what I was to create (discover?), with more than my closest friends and fellow tribe.

With my bag on the floor, I pulled out a dozen small, brown paper bags, a jar of salts to clean the scooper after dipping into each jar, and pulled down the first five jars from the top shelf, left to right, opening each in turn, drawing in their essence deeply. Some were an immediate yes, some were a distinct no, and the rest I would have to smell again after the first smell-through.

What was I looking for? A feeling of opening, of soothing, of inspiration, of wellness, of rapture and passion, of ease, of depth, of primality and ferocity. I wanted the magnitude of visions and the strength of warriors. I wanted to reach into the depths of my soul and bring back the Universe.

                                      Simple  ;-)

I lost track of time and the room entirely. With each new herb I'd be drawn in a different energetic direction....and different emotional reality. Every so often I'd sniff from the small masonry jar of coffee beans and refresh my senses as it always is with processes of selection.

A new rustling sound to my left caught my attention, as the window window blinds were being drawn down. Outside the sky was glowing from the approaching twilight, cast through the store-front windows. It was time to gather my samples, fourteen in all, and make my way home.....to alchemize.

I went home and began blending, learning how the herbs played with each other, which overpowered the others and who played it subtly.  Once the blending was done, I did what so many have done before and I let it sit, untouched, in a bag. I loved what I'd created and didn't realize the power of it. Over the years to come I shared it with friends and tribe, inch by inch, gathering the courage and confidence with this bit of alchemy I'd created from a bit of knowledge and a lot of intuition. I'd bring it out during ceremonies and special evenings with friends, at the Dreamlodge in Mt. Shasta, in Hawaii near Kealakekua on the Big Island. Then during a trip to Rome, visiting my partner at the time, I was inspired to put in a big order and start making a lot of it. Soon, three big boxes arrived at the house and I made my first batch. And once again, after tinkering around little, and sharing it here and there, back into my suitcases it went, and there it sat.

Coming through customs with a suitcase full of herbs was a trip. I declared it, not knowing what kind of import tax they might impose. I stood in a long line of fellow travelers at the US Immigrations and when it was my turn, the man behind the desk asked me what was in the suitcase. I did the most obvious and simple thing I could. I told him exactly what I had, what it was for, why I was making it, the therapeutic and metaphysical effects, and launched into the complete story of what it means to have a dream practice. I got a few minutes into my presentation when he stopped me, rolling his eyes and shaking his head, stamped my passport and waved me through. "Welcome home, next!"

Some are ready to hear it and some want to stay exactly where they are. The long line waiting behind me didn't hurt either  ;-)

With the help of several supportive and enthusiastic partners, this dream elixir is ready for you. It's 100% organic, excepting the balsam fir needles which are wildcrafted from a wonderful group called Maine Balsam. Below I've listed the ingredients along with the purpose each serves, with the intention that when blended, it becomes something beyond the combination of the ingredients.

                                      Lavender - Relaxes
                                      Chamomile - Relaxes
                                      Hops - Soothes
                                      Passionflower - Sleep agent
                                      Mugwort - Dream agent
Oakmoss - For the sweet wildness of the forest (Pan energy, sans the rutting)
Balsam Fir - Brings the quality of adventure. It's deep and alive
Rose petal & bud - The divine mother, however you imagine her. Unconditional, embracing safety and love
Damiana - Dream agent and inspirerer of slithery, sexual prana
Lemon Balm (Vervain) - The Soft Awakener - supports lucidity and greater consciousness (in and out of night dreams)
Spearmint - Purer lucidity - a stronger, more direct link to consciousness....just enough to clear the way
                                      Mullein - A lung cleanser

I don't measure quantities. The mixing of it happens intuitively. And, of course, the magical sum of the process, the sacred element that emerges from the smelting and swirling and sluicing, is a new galactic being. Invite a friendship with it and expect the veils to part for you.

                                      Keep dreaming it real,
                                      Jason
