Dream Journal & Pen - Your bedside companions
Begin by giving yourself a dream journal and it helps to get one that you love. Choose one that's pleasurable to write in. Have fun. Collage it, paint it, do what you feel inspired to, that will make it alluring to engage with it.
Second, select a dream pen. Do simple ball point bics do it for you or are you a felt-tipper? Maybe a fountain pen? Choose one that feels good to write with, that has the best writing-feel to your system. Also, aim for blue ink. We've learned that our brains remember and integrate things written blue more so than other colors. If you prefer to use a pencil, or crayon, or paintbrush.....indulge :)
Now, keep them together and by your bed. If you use that pen to make a note or write a message while on the phone, do your best to put it back with your journal. To wake in the middle of the night or in the morning and not have it right there can interrupt the dreaming process. We’ve felt that before.
Next, get a soft, small light you can use for when you wake in the middle of the night. Make it something subtle. You can even use a red light, which is very undisturbing to the eyes. Just pay attention to how the color might effect your energy. I often use a small 'pinch light'. It's a little, finger-sized LED light, and many people use their cell phones. The idea for the middle-of-the-night dreams, is to record just enough of the key words so that when you wake, those few words will bring back the rest of the dream content. If you want to sit and write out the details in that moment, go for it. I do. Just notice if it becomes a problem, and if it does you can switch back to short-hand. The more you write, type or voice-record, the stronger the connection to your dreaming, and the more able to you'll be to recall all the details if you jot down only the key words.
